Day 14: Psalm 62:5
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.”
David was going through a very difficult time when he wrote this psalm. He had to encourage himself to keep pressing forward.
Wait—David? The brave man who killed Goliath? The one of whom women sang, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands?” Yes, that David. He had to encourage himself in the Lord because he needed to remind himself where to place his trust and where to find rest.
How can I reach the place where I can confidently say, “My hope comes from the Lord?”
Remember who God is.
God is sovereign; He rules over everything. He is more powerful than anything or anyone on the earth. He is a loving, caring, compassionate, and merciful God whose faithfulness is beyond compare.
Focus on God
When trials come, we often focus on the problem and how to fix it, rather than on Jesus, who is able to carry us through it. Focusing on God helps us take our eyes off ourselves and our own abilities, and instead look to God and what He can do.
Surrender to God
Nobody wants to admit they are stuck, unable to find the solution to a trial. Yet that is exactly where God wants us to be, though. He desires that we reach the place where we have nowhere else to turn, so that we turn to Him. A place of surrender.
Rest in God
Once you have placed your burden on the Lord, rest. He is in control of everything. Worrying about it after handing it over to Him only shifts the burden back onto your shoulders! Why not let Him take over, as you enjoy resting in Him?
Let’s walk down this road together. I know the Lord eagerly waits for us to fall into His arms, declaring that we have chosen to rest in Him and that we understand that true hope is only found in Him.
Reflection
Are you ready to rest in God? Are you ready to acknowledge that true hope comes only from Him? He is waiting patiently for you to take that step. Don’t be afraid—He loves you.
Prayer
Lord, the hope You offer us sometimes seems so hard to reach. Yet You continue to offer us daily opportunities to experience this hope. Help us, Lord, to rest in You as we place our hope in You and in no one else. Amen.
