Day 19: Titus 1:2
“…in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time…”
The bride looked into the groom’s eyes as he put the ring on her finger and said, “With this ring I thee wed…until death do us part.” She beamed with joy as she saw the ring slide slowly down her finger, certain that nothing in the world could spoil this moment. She then took his hand and repeated the same words as she put the ring on his finger. Everybody shouted with joy—they were now man and wife.
A few years later, Infidelity crept into their marriage, destroying what had been sealed on that special day. The promise of forever was broken. Smiles faded, leaving tears of sadness and bitterness. The hope of a life together forever was no more.
What does God promise us when we give our lives to Him? Eternal life, promised before the beginning of time. One may ask: how do we know that this promise is true? Simple. God does not lie. Every word He speaks is true, and everything He promises comes to pass.
Think back to creation. Before the whole process began, the Spirit of God moved over the waters. This was before time itself was created. Yet today’s verse states that the promise of eternal life was established before the beginning of time. Isn’t that amazing? Before God formed us, He already knew that He would give us eternal hope! He planned for me to spend eternity with Him long before I was born!
What an amazing hope—the hope of eternal life.
Reflection
Do you feel as though this life has nothing to offer, even though you have faithfully believed in God and served Him with all your heart? Let me encourage you—there is so much more to this life than what we see. God is preparing us for eternal life—a life in His presence with no pain, sorrow, or struggle. May the hope of eternal life strengthen and encourage you today as you face life’s challenges.
Prayer
Lord, thank you that through Jesus’ death on the cross I have the hope of eternal life. Thank you for making it possible for me to look beyond this world and prepare myself for eternity in Your presence. Help me to remember and rejoice in this eternal hope whenever the cares of this life weigh me down. Amen.
