The morning dawns, and you open your eyes.
At first, you feel excited, hopeful.
Then you remember the weight you felt last night,
And you lose hope.
Your heart feels heavy, as tears fill your eyes.
Then, deep inside your heart, you hear a voice asking,
“Do you still trust me?”
The battle has lasted longer than it should have,
Every day there is a new twist that leaves you baffled.
You keep praying, hoping, and fighting.
But there is no breakthrough.
But still the voice in your heart asks,
“Do you still trust me?”
The world looks at you and scoffs,
Taunting you with the phrase, “Where is your God now?”
Believers talk about you in whispers,
Saying, “How come this person is not breaking through?”
Others say, “They must have sinned.”
Your heart sinks, and your spirit is crushed,
But still the voice in your heart whispers,
“Do you still trust me?”
“Okay, God. Why should I trust you?”
The words come out bitterly as you throw your hands in the air.
“I love you.”
“I am Sovereign.”
Silence.
You have nothing to say. No comeback.
Then it dawns on you,
Your life is not your own.
Your breath is a gift.
Everything you have is from Him.
And He gives it to you out of love.
The battle rages on,
But this time, when the voice asks,
“Do you still trust me?”
The answer is,
“Yes, I do.”
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. Psalm 28:7a (NIV)
