Day 20: 1 Peter 1:3
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”
As I was searching for verses on hope, I came across 1 Peter 1:3. This verse refers to the wonderful gift that God gives through Jesus Christ—a living hope!
When Jesus died on the cross, He opened the door for us to experience rebirth—a new relationship with God that comes through our acceptance of Jesus Christ as Saviour. He also gave us a living hope—the result of His resurrection from the dead.
Let’s think for a moment about what dead hope would look like. Some examples include hoping in money, hoping in men, hoping in wealth, or hoping in oneself. None of these endure beyond the grave. None of these are backed by God, who has a wonderful plan for our lives.
A living hope, on the other hand, is backed by God, who loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us on the cross, and then raised HIm from the dead so that we could enjoy the promise of eternal life. We could never obtain this hope on our own—it is a gift from God!
I am eternally grateful to Jesus for allowing me to experience new birth and a living hope.
Reflection
Have you experienced new birth in Christ? Do you have a living hope—the result of Jesus’ death and resurrection? Jesus eagerly waits for you to accept the precious gift that He presents to you—the gift of salvation and eternal hope in Him. Would you accept it today? He is waiting for you with open arms.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that beyond the grave we have hope—a living hope anchored in Your death and resurrection. Thank You for the sacrifice You made so that I may experience life with You here on earth and beyond the grave. Help me to always remember that there is something wonderful to look forward to beyond the grave—eternity with You. Amen.
