Is There Hope?

With all that is going on around us, it is easy to lose hope!

Psalm 43:5 “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (NIV)

The news report came in,

And I listened keenly, hoping for the best.

But no, the news was not the best.

One person had passed on, the first casualty of the disease.

Yet we had been praying, crying out to the Lord for His mercy.

My hope was shattered, crushed.

I began to ask myself the question,

Is there hope?

Psalm 39:7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.” (NIV)

Days passed, and the news reports came in hard and fast.

More people tested positive, and there were a few more deaths.

Every time the briefing would begin,

I would wait eagerly to hear of the miracle God had done.

But there was none.

People were still being infected, and others were losing their lives.

This was a real test of faith because I had been hoping and praying.

Once again the question rang in my mind,

Is there hope?

Psalm 146:5 “Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.” (NIV)

The days came and went, and so did the reports.

I was tempted to totally lose hope and wait for my demise.

Or, on the other hand, blame everything on the powers that be!

I gravitated between both emotions until I was jolted back to my senses by the Lord.

“Don’t you remember who I am? Don’t you remember how to trust in Me?

Don’t you remember all that I have done for you in the past?”

I felt rebuked. I felt sad.

How could I have forgotten that my help comes from the Lord, and nobody else?

Is there hope?

Yes.

So I began to learn to hope in the Lord – again.

I learnt that hoping in the Lord gave me peace.

Hoping in the Lord gave me joy.

I could go through the day without fear or morbid thoughts,

Because I had given my life to someone greater than myself.

The Creator of the Universe.

I also learnt another important lesson.

The Lord was pleased when I put my hope in Him.

Is there hope?

Yes.

There is hope when we trust in the Lord.

There is hope when we understand that He is in control of all things.

There is hope when we learn to let Him do what He does best – handle things according to His will.

Is there hope?

Yes.

In the Lord.

Psalm 147:11 “The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” (NIV)

Lord, help me to put my hope in You at all times,

Not just during this season.

Help me to remember that You are faithful, and Your love is unfailing.

Help me to surrender everything I am and I have to You,

Because I cannot exist without You.

Amen.

Is there hope?

Yes.

In the Lord.

Psalm 33:22 “May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” (NIV)
