Day 8: Jeremiah 17:7
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” (NLT)
Blessed—such a beautiful yet elusive word. True blessing from the Lord is both simple and difficult to obtain, unless you:
- Trust in Him
- Make Him your hope and confidence.
Trusting in the Lord is something we all say we do. But do we really trust in Him fully? To do so, you must have nothing else you are depending on. You should be at rest, having handed over your issues to the Lord. I don’t think I am there yet…
Making God our hope and confidence is another source of blessing. Once again, to do this you must be all in—not getting your hope from elsewhere, and not placing your confidence in your bank balance, social capital, intellect, and so on, but in God.
There you have it: blessing comes from trusting in the Lord and making Him your hope and confidence. In other words, you are blessed when you have nowhere else to turn but to the Lord!
Reflection
Everyone wants God’s blessings, but are they ready to pay the price? The verse above states that if we trust in the Lord and make Him our hope and confidence, we will be blessed. Trusting not just in anything or anyone else—only in God. Are we there yet?
Prayer
Lord, I desire to receive the blessings that come from placing my hope and trust in You. Help me to reach that place where I have nobody else to look to but You, for that is where the true blessing lies. Amen
