Day 10: Psalm 130:5
“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.”
When I was in campus, we were led to believe that the Lord spoke only in certain ways: visions, dreams, and through people. We were also told that the best way to hear God was to pray every time we were free. Now, at that time, the pressure to find someone to date was real, so we were frequent visitors to the prayer spots—one of which was a forest at the edge of a field. I would sit among the shrubs and begin to pray, hoping a tongue-talking brother wouldn’t stumble on me praying out loud for the standard TDH Christian man.
At some point, I had a vision. I now knew whom I was supposed to marry. He was in his third year, and he hardly ever spoke to first years. Just before they finished campus, he walked up to me, greeted me, and asked for my phone number. I was over the moon! He then promised to call me over the long vacation.
I waited…and waited…but nothing happened. I began to lose hope. I asked God if He had lied to me when He showed me that vision, but there was no answer. Eventually, I lost hope.
This story makes me think about how we read God’s Word without truly grasping the power it holds. That one phone call could have brightened up my day for months. Yet the Word is far more powerful than this, because within it are life-giving words given to us by a loving God.
We do not have to retreat to forests in tears, demanding that God speak to us through a vision or a dream. He can speak that way if He chooses to, of course, but if He doesn’t, we have the Bible—overflowing with wisdom and hope.
So—do you trust in God’s word? Can you confidently place your trust in it and say, “In His Word I put my hope?” Remember that the Word of God is written by a trustworthy, faithful, and eternally wise God — giving us every reason to anchor our hope if.
Reflection
Maybe you have never thought of God’s Word being a reflection of Him. Well, it is! Every word in the Bible reveals an aspect of God’s character for us to see clearly. It helps us to know Him better!
Prayer
