Day 17: Psalm 25:5
“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
Oh Lord, my Savior,
I have chosen to trust You,
And to hope in You all day long.
Even when storm clouds gather above me,
And fierce winds batter my face,
Even when the sun shines brightly,
And the flowers bloom with joy,
I will hope in You, Lord.
You created all things for Your glory,
And I am one of them.
By Your grace, I am called Yours,
By Your mercy, all my stains are washed away,
So that I may be Yours.
What a beautiful gift You have given me,
Oh, how much You gave in my place!
Because You loved me so sacrificially,
I will hope in You, Lord.
It’s not easy to hope in You all the time, Lord.
Sometimes I grow discouraged,
Other times, distracted.
Will You help me, Lord?
Will You guide me in Your truth and teach me?
In my weakness, I long to say these words:
I will hope in You, Lord.
I want to place my trust in You, Lord.
Not because of the blessings,
Or the benefits,
But because of who You are:
Worthy. Holy. Righteous.
Loving. Faithful. Good.
Because You are God,
I will hope in You, Lord.
Reflection
How do you honestly feel about placing your hope in God? Afraid? Unsure? Uncertain? David probably felt the same way! Psalm 25:5 is an earnest prayer by someone who longs to hope in the Lord but knows they cannot do so on their own. David, however, ends by declaring: “My hope is in You all day long.” If David could make this prayer, so can I—and so can you.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for being my Savior and my Friend. Thank you for everything You have done for me. Guide me in Your truth so that I may know You more intimately. Teach me more about Yourself so that I can trust You for who You are. Help me to place my hope in You alone, and in no one else. Amen.
