21 Days of Hope – Day 2

Day 2: Psalm 119:114

“You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.”

Let’s think about what hope is for a minute. I would define it as having something to look forward to. For example, a child looks forward to their birthday, hoping to get a birthday cake and presents. A lady who has worked hard to pass all her undergraduate exams looks forward to graduating. That is hope.

What happens when hope does not deliver or live up to expectations? What happens when your hopes are dashed?

Many years ago, my hopes were dashed. Autism knocked on my door, and the dreams I had for my child vanished. After going through a long period of grief, denial, and acceptance, I learned the hard way that I needed to hope in someone greater than myself-God.

It was during this period of learning to hope in God that I discovered how powerful and encouraging His Word is. I would open my Bible and find words that would lift my spirit instantly, reminding me of God’s love and His plan for my life. I have since learned to put my hope in God’s Word, filled with words written down in a book, just for me.

Reflection

Do you enjoy reading God’s word? Does it speak to you, filling you with life, joy, and hope? Join me in my journey of learning to hope in God’s word even more than I have before. There are so many gems hidden in the pages of the BIble, just for us to find and delight in.

Prayer

Lord, help me to put my hope in your Word. Help me to read and meditate on it intentionally each day. Help me to hear Your voice in its words, and to find hope in its pages. Amen.
