21 Days of Hope – Day 3

Day 3: Lamentations 3:24

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” (ESV)

Last year, my friend lost her mum. It was a very painful time for her, especially because she had cared for her so faithfully for several months. The loss hit her hard. I could hear it in her voice when we spoke and see it in her face when we met.

One day, we had a girls’ meetup, and my friend came along, eager for a chance to get away from it all. One of us asked her how she was doing, and she shared that it was a trying season. She then gave us a snippet of how she would get through each day.

“I haven’t been sleeping well. Sometimes I wake up at 3 a.m. and can’t fall asleep again, so I go downstairs, pour myself a glass of water, and open my Bible. As I read the scriptures, I feel the Lord speaking to me—comforting and encouraging me. Before I realize it, two hours have passed. I then close my Bible and pray, thankful for the precious time that I’ve had with Him.”

This didn’t happen just once. Night after night, she returned to that same spot. Even though she was going through a difficult season, she longed to spend time with the Lord, enjoying His comforting presence as He ministered to her.

My friend made the Lord her portion—her most treasured possession in the midst of turmoil. She chose to place her hope in Him, to trust Him with her pain, and to embrace His comforting presence as her source of strength

Reflection

Whom do you turn to when everything around you falls apart, and hope feels like a distant memory? Are you ready to turn to the Lord, to make Him your portion in this trying season? Will you treasure Him above all else in the midst of all you are going through?

Prayer

Lord, I acknowledge that I need You more than ever. My hope rests in You alone. Be my portion, Lord. Help me to treasure the time we have together and to desire a deeper relationship with You. Amen.
